They've also provided steps on how people can host without picking up a separate copy of the game, we've yet to confirm but here are their steps:.
I'm having the same issue, I have 2 accounts, trying to run Ark from my PC via the account that was hosting my dedicated server from my xbox one and I can bring up the dedicated server, but the option to join the server is greyed out and myself or anyone else is unable to join. Also I'm trying to figure out if i need to start the game from my xbox app, my start menu, or what at this point. My server is hosted on XBox and I'm trying to access it on PC, but it does not appear in the server list.
Is there something different that needs to be done? The question is, do you need a nitrando pc server to host. Or can you have a separate xbox account host a server from windows 10 pc through the xbox app and connect to it from another xbox account on the xbox?
So, my Ark server shows that it is up looking at it from my PC, however it is not listed under Unofficial PC sessions and like I said, still can't join from friends list, am I missing something?
So excited for this! Once I have a sever up and running, if anyone wants to join just shoot me a message and I'll keep ya in mind! I already have 3 people who are wanting to play this.
